The Building
The archives of the Prefecture of Lefkada are housed on the ground floor of the building that was built during the British occupation to house the ‘Central Co-educational School’ (i.e. Primary School, with today’s terminology) and the Secondary School of Lefkada (i.e. the Secondary School). The final plans and the budget for its construction were drawn up in 1829.
The Lefkada Archives was housed in a space that covered two thirds of the ground floor, at least since 1935. In 1997, following the actions of the Archival Service, the Municipality of Lefkada and the communities of the prefecture with their relevant decisions They also granted the remaining part of the ground floor to the archives of the Prefecture of Lefkada.
